LanzaTech announces intent to apply for a Hazardous Substances Consent for its facility to produce Sustainable Aviation Fuel in Port Talbot, Wales.

LanzaTech UK Ltd, a subsidiary of LanzaTech Global, Inc. (Nasdaq: LNZA) (“LanzaTech” or the “Company”) is applying to Neath Port Talbot Council (NPTC) for a Hazardous Substance Consent (HSC) for its proposed industrial facility to turn ethanol into sustainable aviation fuel. The HSC Application will be submitted to NPTC on 26 April 2024.

The project is located at Project DRAGON Facility, Phoenix Wharf Road, Port Talbot, Wales, SA13 1RA. From 5 April 2024 to 26 April 2024, members of the public may inspect the Application at Civic Centre, Port Talbot, SA13 1PJ.

If approved, the facility, which would be located at Crown Wharf in Port Talbot, would produce about 100 million litres of sustainable aviation fuel per year, around 10% of the sustainable aviation fuel that the UK plans to use by 2030. When compared with conventional jet fuel, sustainable aviation fuel reduces the production of greenhouse gases by more than 70%. This is expected to create over 150 full-time jobs, including 85 jobs on-site alongside further employment in the supply chain.

Jim Woodger, Managing Director of LanzaTech UK, said, “The Hazardous Substances Consent is the first step toward permitting of our planned facility to produce sustainable aviation fuel in Port Talbot. We are looking forward to continued engagement with the local community as the facility is further developed.”
